From workplace to home life, family has been the driving force behind some of Palm Beach's most successful businesses.

Yafa Signed Jewels, Bice Ristorante Palm Beach, and Café L’Europe belong to a notable group of longstanding local favorites that have flourished under the guidance of generations of family members committed to providing memorable experiences for customers.

In a town like Palm Beach that prides itself on exclusivity, tradition, aesthetic and personal relationships, all three have made their mark.

Here's more about the three businesses and the families who operate them:

Joining the family jewelry business wasn’t part of Tyler Moradof's post-college plans — at first.

The 24-year-old principal of Yafa Signed Jewels said he never saw himself becoming part of a company founded by his grandmother, Yafa Moradof, and father, Maurice Moradof, in 1984.

But COVID-19 ended up steering him in a completely different career direction.

When the pandemic disrupted his junior year at George Washington University in 2020, Tyler Moradof left the school's Washington, D.C., campus to finish his coursework online in New York City, where the company operated a showroom on Fifth Avenue.

When Yafa Signed Jewels opened a second location at 234 Worth Ave. in Palm Beach later that year, Maurice asked his son if he’d be willing to lend a hand there.

Tyler said he saw no reason to turn down the offer.

"I had nothing better going on," he told the Daily News. "Why wouldn't I want to stay in Palm Beach and do my classes on my computer? I ended up really liking it and thinking it was a good idea. It was very interesting."

Yafa Signed Jewels, which commemorated its 40th anniversary in February with a special exhibition in Palm Beach, is known for its curated collection of estate and antique jewelry from the 1960s, '70s and '80s.

It often features rare and one-of-a-kind pieces from houses like Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, and Harry Winston. What makes the company stand out is that it doesn’t produce or design any of its own pieces, Tyler Moradof said.

"We're purely reselling," he said. "They say quality over quantity, and we're very pleased to have both quality and quantity. We jokingly say amongst ourselves that we call ourselves a jewelry supermarket, so to speak. The reason why we say that is because we have such a wide price range of special, special pieces, that if you're even, like, remotely serious about investing in vintage jewelry, it's very hard for you to walk out of our store without a shopping bag. It's really our pleasure to help the community grow that collection."

Yafa Moradof launched Yafa Signed Jewels 1984 in Manhattan. Although she had some knowledge of the industry through her former husband, Maurice said, she still had to build the business from the ground up.

Maurice started working with his mother when he was 15, and with support from his sister, Rozita, they grew the company into a thriving business, first in New York and then in Palm Beach.

"When we came in together, we started going around and taking things on consignment from people, selling it here and there and trying to earn a small commission," Maurice said. "Little by little, we learned the jewelry industry better, and we're very blessed that we have a very fine eye and good taste. All of our inventory is basically our taste. We don't buy things for individuals. We buy things that we love, that we appreciate and that we value."

The company's expansion to Palm Beach has been a positive one, Maurice said.

While the company's New York location is by appointment only, the Worth Avenue location welcomes walk-in visitors looking to browse or make a purchase.

"It's truly an incredible place," Maurice said of Palm Beach. "It's like an adult Disneyland, an adult playground. It's a beautiful, beautiful place. I just regret not coming here 20 years ago or 30 years ago. We've been here for five years, and we're very thankful and grateful to the community for welcoming us, for accepting us, and for the continued support."

Four decades since it was founded, Yafa Signed Jewels continues to thrive with father and son at the helm. Maurice said he feels fortunate to be working side by side with his son each day.

"It's remarkable to work with your son, with your family," he said. "It's bonding time. Definitely, it does get stressful at times, but we are very blessed and thankful that we look beyond the stress and the aggravation that sometimes business brings for us. And when we walk out of the office, it's as though nothing happened."
